Purpose of AmeriCorps
The purpose of AmeriCorps is to engage AmeriCorps members in direct service and capacity-building to address unmet community needs. The AmeriCorps Program engages more than 100,000 Americans each year in intensive service and also serves with more than 3,000 nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based and community organizations. Since 1994, more than 400,000 men and women have provided needed assistance to millions of Americans across the nation through their service. Local programs design service activities for a team of members serving full- or part-time for approximately 11 months through Scott County’s Program. AmeriCorps members also encourage other community members to volunteer and strengthen the capacity of the organizations where they serve. Becoming an AmeriCorps member enables you to do great things for your community while you grow as an individual and obtain tangible benefits.
Get an Education, Experience, and Skills!
Put your idealism to work through AmeriCorps. Make a community safer. Help a child receive a meaningful education. Encourage the homeless. Whatever your interest, there is a Scott County AmeriCorps program that needs your courage, your skills, and your dedication.
Indiana Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives
The Scott County Partnership was awarded a grant though the Indiana Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. In January 2005, Governor Mitch Daniels created the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI) to insure that the faith-based institutions of Indiana were provided equal access to state and federal resources and services. With the establishment of the OFBCI, the responsibilities of the Indiana Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism (ICCSV) were folded in under the auspices of this new office. Together the OFBCI with assistance from the ICCSV, provides information, training, technical assistance and limited grant funding to both community based and faith-based organizations seeking to make Indiana a better place to live for all citizens. The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives grants AmeriCorps programs to many different agencies throughout the State of Indiana.
